And we guarantee to provide exceptional post-sale support to all our customers as well as help those starting a new alpaca farm and who are new to the industry.
The objective of our breeding program is to facilitate change in a predetermined direction towards our primary goal - creating the ultimate alpaca. We decide which animals will become parents, how often and with whom. We understand the basic mechanisms of genetic gain so that we can develop a breeding program to improve our herd. All breeding programs need to adhere to the principles of genetic change, selection accuracy, generational interval, selection intensity and genetic variability to be successful at reaching the goals set forth. This way we can be assured of staying consistent with our ideal of creating what we call the ultimate alpaca - one that is superior in fiber qualities, conformation and disposition.
We believe alpacas are a farm product capable of producing a meaningful income while being environmentally friendly and providing a natural product with markets all around the world. It is this reason why we are proud to be part of this wonderful opportunity.
Primary Breeding Goals:
Our alpacas are bred to be hearty and healthy, easy to manage and maintain, while producing a very valuable, high quality, marketable fiber. We particularly focus on three important key features: fiber, conformation, and disposition.
We like big, bold, strong bone structured alpacas that consistently have low micron (fine fibered), high fequency crimp style, thick substantial lock structure, beautiful brightness & luster and one of the most important fiber criteria: extreme fleece coverage and density. We also prefer alpacas that have textbook conformation, exhibit very "typey" heads and have full leg coverage as well. Our breeding program is strongly based on science and meticulous herd management, aimed at calculated advancement of our herd. The emphasis is on the significance of genotype over phenotype, although the contributions of both are considered.
Breeding decisions are deliberate with all of the above mentioned in mind. Each female is evaluated for the traits she excels in and what she needs to improve on. We match her with an appropriate herdsire on that basis so we are continually bettering our alpacas and overall herd.
Our ideal Ultimate Alpaca would have the following:
- Perfect conformation and bite
- Fiber with an average micron of 20 or less
- Very uniform fleece with consistently low amplitude & high frequency crimp
- Annual blanket shear weights of 10 pounds or more
- Colors that breed true & are consistent throughout
- Little to no medullation (guard hair)
- Calm and gentle disposition
Also, in females, we value: easy conception, trouble-free morning birthing, generous milking and strong mothering ability. And in males, we value: strong libido, high fertility and the ability to produce incredible, superior crias!
Our bloodlines include some of the top pedigrees in the industry, which we feel offer the best genetic diversity while contributing to our goals, such as:
